Unlocking Significant ROI with a Brine Reclamation Upgrade
We’ve had a lot of inquiries lately about brine reclaim systems for water softening applications! In some parts of the country, it’s mandatory. In others, it just makes good sense.
Salt costs vary with transportation costs, but are generally between 4 and 8 cents per pound, depending on the quality of the salt. While that may sound pretty good compared to other chemicals, a relatively simple retrofit to an existing system can reduce your salt consumption by 25-40%! In the Midwest, where hardness levels can be as high as 35-40 grains (yes, we’re serious!), that can start adding up to significant savings.
Brine reclamation is normally done by recapturing a select portion of the brine injection step, diverting it back to either the brine day tank or bulk brinemaking system and resaturating it. The resulting brine quality for the next regeneration is no different in strength and regeneration efficiency than adding new bags of salt – and much easier on your back! The process can be controlled either by conductivity or flow, and a retrofit of an existing system is quite inexpensive. The payback on this upgrade is typically a matter of several months!
Not only does this process save on salt cost, but also regenerant water consumption and the amount of waste sent to the sewer. When you add them all up, the resulting cost savings can add up to a lot of GREEN!
